During Wednesday’s confirmation hearing, critics highlighted Blanche’s role in orchestrating a $1.77 billion settlement agreement intended to resolve a lawsuit between Trump and the IRS. A federal judge recently blocked this deal, labeling the effort as illegal self-dealing. Brett Edkins of Stand Up America described the move as a clear attempt to use taxpayer funds to reward January 6 rioters and provide the president’s associates with unprecedented immunity.
Beyond the settlement, Blanche faces intense scrutiny over his handling of records related to Jeffrey Epstein. Representative Robert Garcia has accused the acting attorney general of overseeing a botched release of documents that exposed the identities of abuse survivors. Lawmakers also questioned his aggressive use of federal investigations against figures such as former FBI Director James Comey and the fundraising platform ActBlue.
