The capital injection serves a strategic purpose: the firm plans to allocate roughly $1.13 billion to acquire a 40% stake in the 3,750-megawatt Jirau hydroelectric plant from its French parent company. By consolidating control over the facility on the Madeira River, Engie Brasil secures two decades of inflation-indexed cash flows tied to long-term revenue contracts.
Engie Brasil Secures $1.66 Billion in Major Equity Offering
Engie Brasil has finalized a follow-on share offering worth 8.4 billion reais, approximately $1.66 billion, marking a significant resurgence in Brazil’s capital markets. The power company priced shares at 30.50 reais each, successfully drawing renewed interest from investors as the nation’s equity sector emerges from a prolonged period of inactivity.

This transaction highlights the broader expansion of Brazil’s energy infrastructure, which is currently shifting to accommodate surging economic demand. While hydropower remains a cornerstone of the grid, the country is diversifying its portfolio, with wind and solar now contributing over a third of supply during peak periods. Engie Brasil, which manages over 12,900 MW of capacity and extensive natural gas networks, remains at the center of this transition as foreign capital flows back into major domestic equity offerings.
