Google integrates third-party apps into AI Mode

Google is transforming its conversational search experience from a simple query engine into an active assistant capable of executing tasks across external platforms. By linking accounts like Instacart, Canva, and YouTube, the tech giant aims to keep users within its ecosystem while competing directly with rivals like ChatGPT and Claude.

The rollout allows users in the U.S. to bridge the gap between planning and execution. For instance, an AI-generated grocery list for a barbecue can now be pushed directly into an Instacart cart for checkout. Similarly, users can pull design templates from Canva or curate music playlists that save automatically to YouTube Music. This functionality stems from a broader push initiated at Google I/O earlier this year, which first introduced third-party app connectivity to the Gemini framework.

Google is scaling these capabilities to maintain its position against competitors who have long prioritized app integrations. Beyond task completion, the company has recently updated AI Mode to include real-time local inventory checks and a side-by-side web exploration feature. These updates follow the introduction of "Personal Intelligence," a tool that allows the AI to pull context from a user’s private Gmail and Google Photos to sharpen its responses.
