Fidelity’s quarterly Analyst Pulse Survey, conducted in June, suggests this period of relative calm is temporary. Among the 100 equity and fixed-income analysts surveyed, 55% anticipate that inflationary pressures will mount over the next 12 months as current protections expire. While the impact is expected to touch every sector and region, consumer, industrial, and utility firms face the most acute risk of margin compression.
Niamh Brodie-Machura, CIO of equities at Fidelity, noted that the ability to absorb these impending costs will serve as a primary differentiator for corporate performance. Despite the darkening geopolitical outlook, the survey indicates a surprising appetite for capital expenditure. Companies are prioritizing investments in utility, energy, and IT sectors, particularly to fuel the ongoing build-out of artificial intelligence infrastructure, ranging from power generation to semiconductor manufacturing.
