While many venture firms scramble to secure fresh capital, New York-based Dimension Capital has bucked the trend by closing an $800 million fund. This third vehicle represents a 60% increase over its predecessor, signaling a massive appetite for startups operating at the increasingly lucrative intersection of biotechnology and high-performance computing.
Founders Zavian Dar, Adam Goulburn, and Nan Li launched the firm in 2022 with a specific thesis: the most valuable deep-tech companies would emerge from the fusion of software and biological sciences. Their conviction has been validated by a string of high-profile successes that have rapidly scaled in value.
Chai Discovery, a firm building open-source AI models for drug development, serves as the primary case study for this growth. Dimension co-led a $30 million seed investment in the startup, which recently secured a $400 million round at a $3.8 billion valuation. Similarly, the firm backed the anti-aging venture New Limit—co-founded by Brian Armstrong—which recently completed a Series C round at a $3.1 billion valuation.
Beyond these direct bets, the firm’s portfolio continues to capture value through strategic exits and industry consolidation. Dimension gained a stake in AI giant Anthropic following the acquisition of its portfolio company, Coefficient Bio, for $400 million earlier this spring. With additional holdings in companies like Modal Labs, the partners are now managing a portfolio that suggests their initial bet on the convergence of silicon and biology is accelerating faster than even they anticipated.
