AegisAI Secures $36M to Combat AI-Driven Spear Phishing
Former Google security veterans Cy Khormaee and Ryan Luo have raised $36 million in Series A funding for their startup, AegisAI. The company aims to neutralize automated spear phishing attacks by deploying AI agents capable of identifying the subtle anomalies that traditional, rule-based security filters consistently fail to detect.
AegisAI addresses this by using agents that evaluate messages with human-like scrutiny, catching sophisticated threats like password-protected malicious PDFs and fake CAPTCHAs. The startup has already secured adoption from companies including Mash, LangChain, and Lokker. Battery Ventures led the latest funding round, bringing the company's total capital to $49 million. While the firm is currently focused on email defense, leadership plans to expand into broader data security, aiming to establish agentic-driven investigation as the industry standard for threat prevention.
