AI Startup Prentis Eyes $1 Billion Valuation in Fresh Funding Round

Backed by tech heavyweights Reid Hoffman and Mark Pincus, AI research lab Prentis is currently in negotiations to secure $100 million in new capital. The startup aims to automate routine office workflows by developing specialized agents capable of navigating complex computer systems and software interfaces independently.

AI Startup Prentis Eyes $1 Billion Valuation in Fresh Funding Round

Founded in April by serial entrepreneur Ritankar Das, Prentis focuses on training models to handle administrative burdens like insurance claims and customs processing. The company reports having already secured up to $50 million in contracts with a diverse range of clients, including healthcare organizations and manufacturers. Its internal projections estimate an annualized run rate of $75 million by the third quarter of this year, though these figures remain contingent on final performance metrics.

The startup claims its Hive-32B model outperforms industry leaders like OpenAI and Anthropic on standardized benchmarks such as WindowsAgentArena. By prioritizing a smaller, more cost-efficient architecture, Prentis asserts it can perform tasks at one-tenth the cost of current frontier APIs. While these performance claims have not been independently verified, the company is positioning itself to capture the growing market for autonomous digital agents alongside rivals like Anthropic and OpenAI.

Das, a former UC Berkeley medalist who previously founded the holding company Titan, has assembled a team of over 25 researchers from firms including Google DeepMind and Meta. The funding effort comes as co-founders Hoffman and Pincus continue to expand their influence in the sector, leveraging their experience from previous ventures like Inflection AI and Zynga to accelerate the development of agentic AI.
