Ukraine’s deep-strike campaign targets Russia’s retail and banking core

Ukrainian forces are escalating a strategic campaign against Wildberries, Russia’s dominant online retailer, with precision strikes on logistics hubs in Penza and Sarapul. By targeting the company’s infrastructure, Kyiv aims to disrupt military supply lines while exerting severe pressure on the Russian banking sector and domestic economic stability.

Ukraine’s deep-strike campaign targets Russia’s retail and banking core

The strikes on Thursday hit facilities over 600 and 1,300 kilometers from the front line, signaling a shift from isolated incidents to a sustained offensive. Having already struck at least 12 warehouses, Ukraine has neutralized roughly 10 percent of the retailer's storage capacity. The operation carries high stakes for the Russian financial system; VTB Bank, the nation's second-largest state lender, recently formed a strategic partnership with Wildberries, and now faces potential losses estimated in the trillions of roubles. Denys Shtilerman, head of the Ukrainian drone firm FirePoint, contends that the collapse of these retail giants could trigger a broader banking crisis.

Beyond the economic fallout, the war's reach widened as a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile reportedly breached Polish airspace, leaving a crater near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia. While NATO member Poland reported no casualties, the incident marks a significant escalation in regional security risks. Meanwhile, Ukraine confirmed the loss of another F-16 fighter jet during an intercept mission; though the pilot survived, the incident underscores the intense attrition facing Ukraine’s air defense. As Russian forces maintain pressure in the Donbas, the shifting intensity of drone warfare and deep-strike tactics continues to redefine the conflict's front lines and its impact on the Russian home front.
