Spotify Adds Personal Journaling to Playlists With User Notes

A first date, a walk through Paris, or a specific memory of discovery—Spotify is now allowing listeners to attach personal captions directly to tracks within their playlists. The new User Notes feature aims to transform static song lists into interactive, digital diaries for music fans.

The feature is accessible via the three-dot menu found next to any track in a user-created playlist. Once a note is saved, it becomes visible to anyone viewing that playlist, with the author’s name linked directly to their profile. By enabling this, the streaming giant hopes to distinguish itself from competitors like Apple Music and YouTube Music by integrating a social, journaling-like layer into the listening experience.

Spotify executives suggest that these entries will eventually paint a comprehensive picture of a listener's musical history and the milestones attached to specific tracks. The update is currently rolling out to both free and premium users aged 16 and older in select markets. Alongside this, the platform debuted a Running Mode, which curates music based on a user’s specific pace and training phase, though this addition remains exclusive to premium subscribers in participating regions.
