Valar Atomics secures $1.2 billion to accelerate modular nuclear power

A $1 billion equity infusion led by Sequoia partner Shaun Maguire has propelled Valar Atomics into the spotlight, signaling a massive bet on the future of energy for high-compute infrastructure. The startup, which is developing small modular reactors, also finalized a $200 million credit line to fuel its transition toward mass manufacturing.

While Valar Atomics declined to confirm its valuation, reports suggest the company is now valued at $6 billion. The capital arrives as the firm pivots from prototype development to scaling the production of its Ward 250 reactors. Earlier this year, the company demonstrated the system’s utility by powering an Nvidia Blackwell cluster, a move that solidified its partnership with the chipmaker to design waterless 30MW AI data centers.

CEO Isaiah Taylor claims the firm is shortening its development cycles significantly, noting that the transition from initial core design to criticality for the Ward 250 took just seven months. The company intends to use the new funding to ramp up manufacturing capacity, moving from individual units to producing fleets of reactors annually. Valar is entering an increasingly crowded sector, competing with firms like Antares and X-energy, which recently completed a $1 billion IPO. The round saw participation from a broad syndicate of investors, including Point72 Ventures, Valor Equity Partners, and Conviction, underscoring the intense institutional interest in nuclear-powered AI infrastructure.
