These platforms manage payment infrastructure for thousands of universities across the country. By embedding these payment gateways, the company aims to offer students and families additional flexibility when navigating high-cost educational expenses.
College tuition payments now available via Venmo
College students can now settle five-figure tuition bills through Venmo and PayPal, following a partnership between the platforms and major education payment processors. The move integrates large-scale academic expenses into the same digital ecosystem currently used for splitting utility bills and minor social transactions.
Nelnet Campus Commerce president Jackie Strohbehn framed the integration as a way to reduce friction, suggesting that expanded payment options help ensure affordability does not become a barrier to enrollment. While the industry emphasizes a seamless experience for tuition payers, the shift marks a significant change in how students interact with their university's financial portals, moving the process from dedicated bank interfaces directly into a consumer-focused social payment app.
