Accounting Startup Rillet Hits $1 Billion Valuation in 48 Hours

Rillet, an AI-native accounting platform, secured $100 million in funding at a $1 billion valuation after a whirlwind 48-hour negotiation. Despite not actively seeking capital, the startup leveraged rapid growth and a strategic alliance with EY to convert existing investors into backers of its new unicorn status.

The capital injection follows a board meeting where Rillet shared that its annualized revenue had doubled in the most recent quarter. The company, which emerged from stealth two years ago, now serves 600 customers, including high-profile clients like the NFL Hall of Fame. Unlike many startups testing the waters, Rillet reports that its users are actively migrating from legacy ERP providers such as Oracle, NetSuite, and Intuit to adopt its AI-agent infrastructure.

Investors ICONIQ, Andreessen Horowitz, and Sequoia, all of whom held previous stakes, led the round. Seth Pierrepont of ICONIQ noted that the decision to double down was straightforward, given the company’s ability to win market share from entrenched incumbents. Sequoia’s Julien Bek highlighted that Rillet is positioned to reinvent the entire finance function by shifting beyond simple accounting into agentic finance.

Security and governance remain central to the platform’s growth. Rillet utilizes model routing to allow clients to choose their preferred foundational models while ensuring data privacy through strict non-training policies. A recent audit feature allows accountants to monitor agent decision-making, a development Kopp credits to the rapid maturation of AI capabilities. While the industry faces a well-documented talent shortage, Kopp rejects the notion of immediate job displacement. Instead, he views AI as a tool to automate routine grunt work, allowing accountants to focus on advisory roles as the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 5% increase in accounting-related needs through 2034.
