Al Green Files Impeachment Articles Over ICE and CBP Conduct

Texas Democrat Al Green introduced new articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump on Monday, accusing the administration of weaponizing federal immigration agencies. Green’s resolution characterizes Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection as unaccountable paramilitary forces responsible for the unjustified killings of civilians.

The resolution alleges that Trump has transformed these federal agencies into quota-driven tools of an authoritarian regime, operating with secrecy to terrorize communities. Green specifically cites the deaths of Renée Good, Alex Pretti, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, and Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero as evidence of a pattern where agents act as judge, jury, and executioner without consequence. Despite public outcry following these incidents—including the killing of two U.S. citizens in Minnesota—Congress approved a $70 billion funding package for the Department of Homeland Security in June.

This marks the first time in Trump’s second term that impeachment articles have directly targeted his anti-immigrant policies. While Green, who is completing his final term in the House, has previously introduced similar resolutions, the move aligns with a broader push from advocacy groups like Free Speech for People. Recent polling suggests that 52% of U.S. voters support a third impeachment of the president. John Bonifaz, president of the advocacy group, described the current political climate as an existential moment for the nation, urging lawmakers to uphold their constitutional oaths by holding the executive branch accountable for its use of force on American soil.
