Capital F Closes $17 Million Debut Fund for the Female Economy

With nearly 80% of their limited partners being women, Capital F has officially closed a $17 million debut fund aimed at backing startups within the female economy. Founders Margaret Coblentz and Dawn Dobras are targeting early-stage ventures in women’s health, digital commerce, and AI-driven safety tools.

Coblentz and Dobras, who first collaborated nearly 17 years ago at the retailer Charlotte Russe, pivoted to venture capital after decades in executive leadership. Their professional history includes roles at companies like Credo Beauty, Gap, and the launch of Coblentz’s own luxury knitwear brand. The pair turned to angel investing before formalizing their partnership, driven by the realization that women remained underrepresented at the highest levels of capital allocation.

The firm’s strategy involves more than just traditional funding. Capital F requires founders to consult with at least two of their 10 limited partners before receiving a check. This approach has already facilitated advisor roles, board seats, and sales introductions for their portfolio companies. To build their base, the founders hosted nationwide salon events, creating a pipeline for what they term the 'VC curious.'

To date, the firm has invested in 13 companies, with check sizes ranging from $250,000 to $1 million. Their portfolio includes the telemedicine provider Hey Jane, hormone-tracking platform Stardust, and Steller Sleep, which was acquired by Google prior to the fund's official close. Coblentz and Dobras expect to fully deploy the capital by the end of 2027, focusing on ventures like Malama, a doula support service for Medicaid patients, to address long-standing gaps in women's health technology.
