Dogs are masters at masking illness, often hiding symptoms until a condition becomes severe. Palo Alto startup Hoomanely aims to bridge this gap with the EverBowl, a sensor-laden feeding station that tracks appetite, hydration, and eating mechanics to establish a health baseline and alert owners to subtle, early-stage changes.
During an 18-month beta phase involving 80 dogs, the platform successfully flagged issues ranging from infected chipped teeth to tick fever. Despite these successes, the system remains in its early stages, with roughly 50 units currently deployed and a subscription model priced at $29 per month. Hoomanely acknowledges that its technology is not a replacement for professional veterinary care. The company is now launching formal studies to establish clinical sensitivity and specificity rates, while simultaneously developing a wearable, EverSense, to track movement and rest. Having secured $1.8 million in pre-seed funding, the startup intends to evolve into a broader animal health data provider, potentially expanding its reach to cats, horses, and livestock.
