Poseidon Aerospace secures $60M to disrupt regional cargo logistics

Poseidon Aerospace has closed a $60 million Series A round to accelerate the development of its uncrewed cargo aircraft. Led by TQ Ventures, the funding arrives as the startup prepares for the maiden test flight of its flagship Egret plane, scheduled to take off by the end of this year.

Co-founders David Zagaynov and Parker Tenney are eschewing the industry trend of electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles in favor of a more pragmatic approach. By utilizing combustion engines and fixed-wing designs, the company aims to maximize energy density and lower operational costs. The startup plans to operate its own air cargo business, directly challenging traditional carriers by leveraging autonomy to eliminate the limitations of human pilot rest cycles and cockpit infrastructure.

Removing the cockpit allows for a significant reduction in weight, creating a more efficient payload-to-empty-weight ratio. This design philosophy is central to Zagaynov’s goal of breaking the traditional hub-and-spoke model in favor of flexible, point-to-point regional service. With a new facility in an Alameda Navy hangar, Poseidon is scaling its operations to build full-size aircraft, targeting both defense sectors and underserved commercial routes where infrastructure is often constrained.
