The acquisition follows an internal trial where Superhuman developers attempted to build a native notetaker from scratch. CEO Shishir Mehrotra admitted the complexity of the task convinced him that purchasing a mature, specialized product was the only viable path to success. Fathom, founded in 2020, brings a proven technical foundation to a suite that already includes docs, calendars, and a database tool.

Fathom enters the deal with significant momentum, having raised over $30 million and reaching a $94 million valuation earlier this year. Its investor list includes prominent names like Reddit CEO Steve Huffman and former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear. For Fathom CEO Richard White, the deal solves a distribution hurdle. Operating as a standalone entity would have required duplicating the infrastructure already present in Superhuman’s ecosystem.

Integration will allow Superhuman to bridge the gap between verbal conversation and automated execution. With Fathom’s engine at the center, the company plans to automate email drafting, data entry, and follow-up scheduling. This move places Superhuman directly against well-funded competitors like Granola and Read AI, as the industry shifts from simple transcription to autonomous workplace agents.
