The partnership marks a pivot for both firms. DoorDash plans to scale the Grubhub Campus Dining network, which currently operates at 450 colleges and universities, into new territory including stadiums and hotels. For Wonder, the capital supports Lore’s push toward a fully autonomous food system capable of producing personalized meals at scale.
DoorDash Bets $425 Million on Marc Lore’s Wonder Food Empire
DoorDash is pouring $425 million into Wonder, the fast-growing food tech startup led by entrepreneur Marc Lore. The deal includes a $300 million acquisition of Wonder’s Grubhub Campus Dining business and a $125 million cash injection into the company’s recent Series D funding round, signaling a major shift in delivery strategy.
Since the start of 2025, Wonder has quadrupled its physical presence, now operating 157 locations across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. The company, which previously absorbed brands like Blue Apron and Grubhub, intends to enter the Texas market by early 2027. Lore, whose resume includes exits to Amazon and Walmart, is utilizing this cash infusion to accelerate the rollout of his ghost kitchen food halls, which consolidate multiple restaurant concepts under a single roof.
