Nscale’s filing reveals a concentrated revenue stream that is both its greatest asset and its primary risk. Roughly 85% of its $103 billion contract backlog is tied to two clients: a $43.8 billion compute deal with Microsoft running through 2033 and a $44.6 billion agreement with Anthropic. The latter remains precarious, as the AI lab reserves the right to terminate the deal if Nscale misses stringent performance milestones or fails to secure necessary financing.
This extreme reliance on a few key players highlights a systemic trend across the AI infrastructure sector. A recent report by Sona Asset Management identified a web of dependency where providers like CoreWeave and Applied Digital rely on similarly narrow customer bases. If a major player like Microsoft pivots its strategy, the ripple effect could destabilize the entire supply chain. Despite these risks, Nscale is growing rapidly, reporting $140.6 million in revenue for the first half of the year, though net losses have concurrently surged to $1.02 billion.
