Skydance Emerges as Media Giant Following $110 Billion Paramount Merger

David Ellison has officially consolidated his grip on Hollywood, finalizing a $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery to birth a new media titan under the Skydance banner. The deal merges two massive streaming ecosystems and a sprawling portfolio of legacy networks, marking a seismic shift in the global entertainment landscape.

Skydance Emerges as Media Giant Following $110 Billion Paramount Merger

The newly formed Skydance conglomerate now controls a vast library of intellectual property, including The Lord of the Rings, the DC Universe, Game of Thrones, and Yellowstone. By folding assets like CBS, CNN, MTV, and HBO Max into a single corporate structure, the company establishes a formidable competitor capable of generating nearly $70 billion in annual revenue. Trading for the firm’s Class B shares begins immediately on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol SKYD.

This consolidation followed a complex bidding war against Netflix, which had previously secured an agreement to acquire portions of Warner Bros.’ studio business. To outmaneuver the streaming giant, Paramount sweetened its offer by guaranteeing shareholder payouts and covering the breakup fees associated with the abandoned Netflix contract. With legal challenges from state regulators and labor unions settled, the Ellison family—backed by Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison—now commands one of the largest entertainment operations in history. David Ellison, who spearheaded the integration, characterized the move as a transformative step toward unifying production resources and scaling content distribution across all major platforms.
