Amazon’s six-year agreement grants the streaming platform exclusive rights to carry the ceremony across more than 240 countries and territories. Unlike standard Prime content, the telecast will be available to non-subscribers, reflecting a strategy to maximize reach as viewership habits shift away from linear television. While financial terms remain undisclosed, the move follows a period of volatile ratings for the event, which saw a 10% decline this year compared to previous figures.
Emmys Pivot to Prime Video in Streaming Shift
The television industry’s most prestigious night is leaving traditional broadcast networks behind. Starting in 2027, the Emmy Awards will find a permanent home on Prime Video, ending a seven-decade rotation among the major broadcast networks and signaling a fundamental change in how Hollywood presents its biggest accolades to a global audience.

The transition mirrors a broader industry trend toward digital-first distribution. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has already secured a deal for YouTube to broadcast the Oscars starting in 2029, and the Screen Actors Guild Awards migrated to Netflix last year. By securing the Emmys, Amazon positions itself at the center of this migration, attempting to stabilize an audience that fluctuated between 6.87 million viewers this year and a record low of 4.3 million in January 2024.
