Apple Prepares HomeView Launch to Revive Smart Home Ambitions

Apple is set to debut the HomeView, a dedicated smart home hub powered by the A18 chip, on Tuesday. The device represents the company's most aggressive attempt to capture the domestic automation market, following years of underwhelming performance from its existing HomeKit software and hardware ecosystem.

Mark Gurman reports that the new device will feature a built-in display and deep Siri integration, functioning as a central command station for household electronics. Apple intends to offer two distinct configurations: one designed for placement on countertops and another optimized for wall mounting. This hardware push accompanies refreshed iterations of the Apple TV and HomePod mini, both expected to be unveiled alongside the new hub.

Beyond the central hub, the company is broadening its reach through strategic partnerships. Reports indicate a collaboration with LG to develop a suite of smart home peripherals, including doorbells, thermostats, and locks. By integrating these specific hardware components with the HomeView, Apple aims to solve the interoperability issues that previously stalled the adoption of its HomeKit framework.
