The funding round, led by Luminous Ventures and manufacturer Huaqin, supports Ambi’s initial suite of applications for iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch. While current meeting software typically automates post-call summaries, Ambi positions itself as an active participant that surfaces relevant data and knowledge during live conversations. The system integrates with calendars and internal databases to offer suggestions in the moment, moving beyond the latency associated with existing hardware like the Plaud Note.
Former Plaud executive secures $26 million for ambient AI startup Ambi
Peter Mo, formerly of Plaud, has secured $26 million in funding to launch Ambi, an artificial intelligence platform designed for continuous, real-time context gathering. The startup aims to provide proactive assistance by monitoring user activity across devices, sparking immediate debate regarding the privacy implications of persistent background recording.

Ambi plans to expand its data ingestion capabilities through a forthcoming desktop application that observes user workflows to refine its personalization. Beyond software, the company is developing dedicated hardware equipped with cameras, microphones, and a display to capture environmental context. This aggressive data collection strategy arrives as the industry faces intense scrutiny over consent and transparency. While Mo emphasizes that ambient capture is disabled by default and that recordings are encrypted, the platform relies on users to manually disclose to bystanders that they are being monitored. With over 50 employees across San Francisco, Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, the company is currently scaling its engineering team to improve speech recognition models and accelerate its market entry.
