Citigroup Wealth Division Profits Surge 93 Percent

Citigroup’s wealth division saw its net income soar 93 percent to $585 million in the third quarter of 2026, fueled by a 15 percent revenue jump to $3.3 billion. The performance highlights robust growth across the bank's core wealth units, driven primarily by favorable deposit spreads and increased investment fees.

Net interest income provided the largest boost, climbing 20 percent to $2.3 billion. While deposit balances and spreads strengthened results, these gains were partially dampened by lower mortgage margins. Noninterest revenue reached $1 billion, supported by a 15 percent rise in client investment assets through both new onboarding and favorable market valuations.

All three internal business segments contributed to the growth. The Private Bank led with a 17 percent revenue increase to $766 million, while Citigold and Retail Banking expanded by 16 percent to $2.3 billion. Wealth at Work saw a more modest 7 percent gain to $228 million. Operating expenses rose 3 percent to $2.4 billion, largely due to performance-linked compensation and severance costs. The division’s provision for credit losses climbed to $102 million, reflecting both actual losses in retail banking and a $32 million reserve build tied to the broader economic outlook.

Group-wide, Citigroup reported net income of $5.2 billion, up from $3.8 billion a year prior. Chief executive Jane Fraser noted that the firm returned over $4 billion to shareholders while continuing to prioritize growth investments. The group ended the quarter with a Common Equity Tier 1 ratio of 12.8 percent.
