The IRGC reported targeting four tankers engaged in oil transfers in the northern Persian Gulf while confirming three additional vessels detonated mines west of the Strait of Hormuz. Beyond the naval maneuvers, the force issued a direct warning to the United States, suggesting that persistent regional provocations could trigger retaliatory strikes against U.S. military bases.
Persian Gulf Tensions Spike as Iran Claims Attacks on Seven Vessels
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy announced Thursday that seven ships, including oil tankers, were struck by mines or direct fire in the Persian Gulf. This escalation coincides with Houthi drone strikes on Saudi infrastructure, pushing Brent Crude futures above $111 per barrel as regional stability fractures.

Simultaneously, the conflict has intensified on land. Iran-aligned Houthi forces recently targeted Saudi Arabia’s Shaybah oilfield, resulting in two fatalities and two injuries from intercepted drone debris. While facility operations remain intact, the market reaction was immediate, with oil prices climbing over 2% during Asian trading. The security situation has deteriorated to the point that the U.S. government has ordered non-essential personnel and diplomatic families to evacuate Saudi Arabia, reflecting deep uncertainty regarding the safety of critical energy corridors.
