Apple Updates iPad Mini with A20 Pro Chip and OLED Display

Apple has refreshed its smallest tablet, equipping the new 8.5-inch iPad mini with a high-performance A20 Pro chip and an upgraded OLED display. The device arrives just ahead of the company’s broader 'Pro and Tell' event, signaling a significant push into AI-integrated hardware for its compact form factor.

The new iPad mini measures just 5.4 mm thick, housing a Super Retina XDR display that achieves a peak brightness of 1,200 nits. By utilizing OLED technology, the screen offers pixel-level lighting control and a 2 million:1 contrast ratio, alongside an optional nano-texture finish to minimize glare. Apple has also introduced an 'Acoustic Display' feature, which integrates woofers directly into the screen assembly to provide deeper bass and improved audio output for media consumption.

Under the hood, the A20 Pro chip drives substantial performance gains, including a 6-core CPU that delivers 60% faster multithreaded processing. The device is heavily optimized for machine learning tasks, boasting a 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators that provide 4.5 times the AI performance of the previous model. This hardware supports the latest version of Apple Intelligence and an updated Siri, which can now interpret on-screen context and user-specific data. The tablet starts at $699 for the Wi-Fi model and $849 for the Wi-Fi and cellular version, with pre-orders opening October 28 and retail availability starting November 6.
