Meta AI veteran Rohit Patel launches Ndoc to challenge office suites

After eight years of shaping AI strategy at Meta, director Rohit Patel is leaving the tech giant to launch Ndoc. His new startup aims to replace fragmented enterprise workflows in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace with a unified, AI-native platform designed to bring transparency to automated data analysis.

Patel, formerly of Meta Superintelligence Labs, designed Ndoc to consolidate the disjointed experience of toggling between Excel, Tableau, and repetitive copy-paste tasks. The platform centers on three integrated modules: a Stage tab for visual presentations, a Narrative tab for AI-generated analysis, and a Model tab that exposes the underlying Python scripts. By granting users access to the code behind the documents, Patel intends to eliminate the "black box" problem often associated with corporate AI tools.

His departure follows a series of high-profile exits at Meta, including Joel Kaplan and Emily Dalton Smith. While industry giants like OpenAI and Google focus on layering AI bots onto existing software, Patel characterizes that approach as inefficient, comparing it to attaching lights to a plow rather than building a tractor. Ndoc aims to reinvent file formats by utilizing an open-source .ndoc.html standard, allowing documents to function in any browser without vendor lock-in. Currently in an enterprise pilot phase, the startup is operating without outside funding, with Patel prioritizing user-validated product performance over immediate capital injection.
