Amazon Expands Alexa Shopping Features Ahead of Holidays

With over 400 million consumers already using Alexa for shopping annually, Amazon is rolling out more than 100 new capabilities to its voice assistant. The update targets the high-pressure holiday season, aiming to turn the AI into a comprehensive tool for managing subscriptions, delivery logistics, and complex payment inquiries.

The expansion shifts Alexa from a basic voice controller to a more active shopping agent. Users can now create, view, and modify shopping lists through voice commands, while also adjusting the frequency of recurring subscription deliveries. If a customer needs to change a delivery address or provide specific drop-off instructions, the assistant handles these modifications directly.

Beyond logistics, the update tackles account management. Customers can query Alexa regarding their Prime or Audible subscription statuses and receive guidance on resolving billing or payment issues. This follows a broader company strategy to integrate generative AI into the retail experience, building on previously released tools like automated shopping assistants and personalized offer notifications. According to Amazon, the usage of these agentic features has surged eightfold since the beginning of the year.
