Zest Launches AI Concierge to Handle Restaurant Bookings via Text

Moving beyond the traditional app interface, restaurant discovery startup Zest has debuted an AI-powered concierge that lives directly within text message threads. The tool analyzes a user's transaction history to suggest dining spots and can finalize reservations through integrated platforms like OpenTable, Resy, and SevenRooms without requiring a standalone application.

The service functions by linking to users' credit card data via Plaid, specifically tracking food and drink transactions to build a profile of personal tastes. By bypassing the need for manual onboarding or lengthy preference surveys, the AI generates recommendations based on actual dining habits. Founder and CEO Mario Gomez-Hall notes that the agent can be added to group chats, where it synthesizes multiple users' preferences, facilitates voting on options, and manages bookings for the entire party.

Beyond basic reservations, the concierge answers specific queries regarding restaurant atmosphere, Wi-Fi availability, and menus. While currently focused on dining, the startup plans to expand the agent's utility into shopping and other local business recommendations. Revenue generation is tied to these transactional interactions, as the platform earns through the booking process. The company is already preparing to integrate food ordering capabilities, signaling a transition toward a broader, conversation-first utility.
