Ukraine Resumes Targeted Strikes on Russian Oil Infrastructure

After a brief two-week hiatus, Ukrainian drone forces have launched a coordinated campaign against Russia’s energy sector, striking three major refineries since Friday. The renewed offensive, which defies pressure from the Trump administration to avoid fuel-related targets, signals a return to a high-stakes strategy aimed at disrupting Moscow’s supply chains.

Ukraine Resumes Targeted Strikes on Russian Oil Infrastructure

Satellite imagery from NASA’s Fire Information for Resource Management System indicates a fresh heat anomaly at a crude oil pumping station in the Samara region, suggesting a new hit on Monday. This follows a string of weekend strikes that targeted Rosneft’s Novokuibyshevsk refinery, a facility in Bashkortostan, and Lukoil’s Kstovo refinery in Nizhny Novgorod. The resumption of these operations marks the first significant escalation against Russian energy assets since mid-October.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly urged Kyiv to cease these attacks, citing concerns over global diesel shortages and record-high U.S. retail prices, which recently reached $6.29 per gallon. While the White House claims to have brokered a temporary energy ceasefire last month, the reality on the ground contradicts this assessment. By targeting these critical hubs, Ukraine is once again pressuring global fuel markets while testing the diplomatic limits of its relationship with Washington.
