Gujarat Energy Ltd will receive up to 4 million tons of liquefied natural gas over a decade under a deal with ADNOC, with deliveries scheduled to start in 2028. The agreement is the first sale from the international gas portfolio of XRG, ADNOC’s international investment company.
The agreement is ADNOC’s fifth LNG supply deal in India. It also links XRG-owned gas produced outside the Persian Gulf to Indian demand through ADNOC’s global LNG marketing and trading platform, the Abu Dhabi state energy company said Friday.
“Natural gas is central to driving India's shift toward cleaner energy,” said Avantika Singh Aulakh, managing director of Gujarat Energy. She described gas as a lower-carbon option that can improve industrial efficiency, provide households with safer cooking fuel and support cleaner transportation.
ADNOC launched its global LNG marketing and trading platform earlier this year, combining the LNG marketing operations of ADNOC Gas and XRG with ADNOC Trading’s trading capabilities. The company has since announced a series of supply deals. Earlier this week, ADNOC Gas agreed to supply TotalEnergies with up to 1.6 million tons of LNG over five years. TotalEnergies said deliveries could begin as early as this year.
The UAE is developing the Ruwais LNG project in Al Ruwais Industrial City, Abu Dhabi. The facility is planned to have production capacity of 9.6 million tons per annum, most of which has been committed to buyers in Asia and Europe under long-term agreements. The UAE remains confident in the long-term growth prospects for global LNG demand despite severely constrained flows through the Strait of Hormuz over the past eight months.
