Fox has completed its $22 billion purchase of Roku, bringing the streaming company under Fox ownership earlier than the companies initially projected and expanding Fox’s reach in connected TV. Fox said the combined business ranks third among U.S. television companies by viewership.
Roku, founded in 2002, will give Fox access to more than 100 million households. Fox expects that reach to help improve advertising targeting, strengthen its position in the fast-growing connected TV market and reduce its reliance on traditional television distribution.
Roku founder Anthony Wood said the company’s mission to give people a better way to watch TV would continue after the deal. “What does change is our reach and resources,” he said in a statement, adding that Roku’s teams would keep building and innovating with Fox’s support and capabilities.
The closing follows a Justice Department antitrust review. Two months ago, the department issued a second request for information, seeking additional data and documents from both companies. Reports earlier this month suggested the deal was nearing U.S. regulatory approval.
When Fox and Roku announced the acquisition in June, they expected it to close in the first half of 2027. The transaction has now been completed ahead of that timetable.
