“For us, it’s less about headcount and more about agent count,” says Recursive Superintelligence CEO Richard Socher. The AI startup has committed $410 million to Amazon Web Services to fuel its self-improving systems, effectively funneling the majority of its capital into raw compute rather than traditional payroll.
While the industry remains divided on whether self-improving AI represents an imminent breakthrough or a distant research goal, Recursive is moving toward commercialization. Socher expects the first tangible products to debut as early as October. He views this nine-figure commitment as merely the beginning, describing it as one of the smallest compute deals the company expects to sign in the coming years.
