Israeli military forces have established a 'yellow line' roughly 10 kilometers north of the border, effectively asserting control over 55 towns and villages. This buffer zone mirrors tactics previously deployed in Gaza, where systematic demolition of housing has rendered large areas uninhabitable. Defense Minister Israel Katz previously directed the military to accelerate these home destructions, a campaign that has already impacted more than 40,000 residential buildings according to local reports.
Despite the formal ceasefire, shelling continues in areas including Beit Lif and al-Qantara. The Israeli military stated it engaged individuals approaching the new line with 'precise strikes,' labeling those killed as combatants. However, the lack of clarity regarding the specific threats posed by these individuals has fueled concerns over the indiscriminate nature of the continued fire. UN experts have formally denounced the strategy, warning that the systematic destruction of housing suggests a pattern of 'domicide' aimed at permanent displacement.
