Spotify launches AI-driven running mode for premium subscribers

Spotify is integrating a new running mode into its mobile application, designed to sync music playback with the physical intensity of a workout. By leveraging artificial intelligence to analyze tempo and user preferences, the platform now automatically adjusts track selection to match specific phases of a run.

Premium users can access the feature through the Fitness Hub, choosing from 25 presets that include interval, steady, and pyramid training styles. Beyond music selection, the system provides audio cues throughout a session, though this functionality is currently limited to English. The development stems from data gathered during the company's recent experiments with AI-prompted playlists, which revealed a high demand for curated fitness-oriented audio.

The launch follows a shift in the broader fitness tech landscape, arriving months after Strava discontinued its direct Spotify integration. This rollout is available starting Wednesday for iOS users across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden, marking another step in Spotify's push into the health and fitness market following its previous collaboration with Peloton.
