Undersea fiber-optic cables, the fragile backbone of global data transfer, face a new challenger from space. Endeavor Optical Networks (EON) has emerged from stealth with $10.75 million in seed funding to develop a satellite-based laser network designed to move massive data volumes between continents at unprecedented speeds.

The startup, founded by CEO Charlie Horowitz and CTO Tyler Presser, aims to solve the latency and infrastructure limitations inherent in terrestrial cable networks. While traditional satellite communications struggle to match the 200-terabit-per-second capacity of fiber, EON intends to bridge this gap using advanced optical technology. Their roadmap includes a 20-satellite constellation capable of providing dedicated, high-speed links between regions, with an initial demo satellite launch targeted for late 2027.

EON faces significant technical hurdles, primarily signal distortion caused by atmospheric interference and cloud cover. To mitigate this, the company plans to utilize redundant ground stations and sophisticated weather-tracking software. By focusing on underserved routes—such as trans-African or South American corridors—EON hopes to attract hyperscalers and AI labs looking for dedicated, high-capacity transit. The company is backed by General Catalyst and Andreessen Horowitz, with investors highlighting the team's engineering pedigree, which includes veterans from NASA, Google, and Amazon’s LEO satellite projects.
