Parents can now set daily transaction limits and receive instant notifications for every purchase made through their child’s account. If a device goes missing or a break in spending is required, guardians retain the power to remotely lock the wallet or trigger a temporary timeout. These features aim to foster financial literacy without the friction of traditional bank accounts, positioning the tech giant as a direct competitor to specialized services like Greenlight and FamZoo.
Google Wallet introduces parental controls for teen digital spending
Google is bringing supervised financial independence to minors by allowing parents to establish secure digital balances for users under 18. The update enables adolescents to make contactless payments via Android or Wear OS devices while providing guardians with granular oversight tools to monitor and restrict spending habits in real time.

This expansion builds upon previous updates that allowed minors to store digital passes, such as event tickets and library cards, within the app. By requiring parental consent to link any payment card, the company maintains a tight grip on account security. For now, the rollout is confined to the United States, with no confirmed timeline for an international release.
