Libya Targets 2 Million Barrels of Oil Per Day by 2030s
With a $2 billion operating budget finally secured, Libya’s National Oil Corporation is setting an ambitious trajectory to lift crude production from 1.4 million barrels per day to 2 million. Chairman Masoud Suleman confirmed the infusion, brokered with U.S. assistance, marks a definitive end to years of paralyzing fiscal delays.

Global firms are returning to Libya, ending a long period of stagnation that followed the 2011 uprising. Recent milestones include the declaration of the Essar oil discovery as commercially viable alongside Austria’s OMV, and the finalization of production-sharing agreements with companies like Eni, Repsol, and QatarEnergy. These contracts represent the first major licensing push in nearly two decades, signaling a broader effort to restore Libya's status as a dominant force in the African energy market.
