Human Rights Watch (HRW) details a sharp rise in daily settler attacks, reaching record levels under Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration. Researchers interviewed 20 witnesses and analyzed footage showing coordinated actions where settlers and Israeli soldiers act in tandem to seize territory. The state has further bolstered this campaign by establishing civilian 'rapid response squads' within settlements, granting them official policing powers, uniforms, and government-issued weaponry.
Sarah Sanbar, an HRW researcher, stated that the state provides the necessary cover and budget for these actions, characterizing the strategy as a drive for 'maximum land and minimum Palestinians.' This environment of impunity is compounded by new government tenders for over 1,200 housing units in the West Bank. Advocacy group Peace Now warned that these contracts are being rushed to completion before upcoming elections to ensure the expansion becomes irreversible for any future administration.
