Ukrainian forces push back toward Velyka Novosilka

The front line near Velyka Novosilka is shifting as Ukrainian units maintain steady pressure on Russian positions. Despite the intensity of fighting in other sectors, this tri-regional junction—where Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk meet—has re-emerged as a critical flashpoint for territorial control after months of relative stagnation.

While the Russian offensive near Orikhiv has stalled, the situation around Velyka Novosilka remains fluid. Ukrainian forces are methodically reclaiming ground, forcing Russian commanders to re-evaluate their defensive posture in a sector they have contested since early 2025. With the front now positioned less than 15 kilometers from the town, the territorial gains Russia secured after years of heavy attrition are increasingly vulnerable to counter-maneuvers.

Beyond the ground war, the weekend saw a spike in long-range strikes. Storm Shadow missiles targeted critical infrastructure, specifically factories involved in Iskander component production. Russian forces responded by striking bridges across the Zaporizhzhia region, while casualties were reported in Voronezh following a drone incident involving a passenger train. Amid these broader strikes, tactical losses persist on both sides, including the confirmed destruction of a Czech-made Dita howitzer by Russian artillery units.
