BNP Paribas Surges in Q3 as Equities Trading Drives Profit

A 50 percent spike in equities trading propelled BNP Paribas to a €3.46 billion net income in the third quarter of 2026, handily beating market forecasts. The Paris-based lender reported a 13.5 percent year-over-year increase in profit, signaling robust momentum across its corporate and institutional banking divisions despite persistent domestic economic headwinds.

Revenue climbed to €13.76 billion, a 9.5 percent rise that exceeded analyst expectations. The bank’s corporate and institutional banking arm served as the primary engine for this growth, while wealth management divisions saw steady inflows across Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Bolstered by these results, the firm confirmed a €1.3 billion share buyback program slated for a November launch.

Total assets under management expanded significantly over the first nine months of the year, bolstered by €49.4 billion in net inflows and favorable market conditions. While the bank’s core operations remain resilient, leadership acknowledged that the real estate sector continues to struggle in a lacklustre market. Looking ahead, CEO Jean-Laurent Bonnafé plans to unveil a comprehensive 2030 strategic plan on February 2. This roadmap arrives as French financial institutions navigate the complexities of rising eurozone sovereign bond yields.
